Welcome to the course in Paint & Coating Technology: Theory and Practice! A comprehensive seven-day course for individuals seeking an in-depth understanding of paint and coating technology.

Paint is a complex chemical product with a lifecycle spanning development, manufacturing, application, aging, and repainting. This course provides a structured approach, beginning with fundamental knowledge of paint raw materials. It progresses through development, formulation, manufacturing, substrates, application and drying methods, analysis, testing and colour measurement. Additionally, the course addresses fundamentals of surface chemistry, rheology, paint and surface defects, complaint handling, regulatory classification according to the EU CLP Regulation, occupational health and safety, transport of dangerous goods, and insights into functional paints and new technologies. In addition to lectures, the course includes a half-day visit to a paint factory, group exercises and written examinations. The course is owned and administered by the Swedish Paint and Adhesive Association, SVEFF. Welcome!

  • Lectures covering the 17 chapters included in the 700+ pages course literature.

  • Half-day guided tour of a paint manufacturing plant.

  • Collaboration with fellow attendees in group problem solving exercises.

  • Homework - self-learning questions.

  • Assessment by written examinations.

For whom is the course intended?

The course is intended for individuals seeking comprehensive knowledge of all aspects of paints and coatings. SVEFF particularly encourages technicians involved in research, development, and formulation within the paint industry to enrol. To better comprehend the course content, participants should have at least a background in upper high school chemistry, preferably supplemented with university-level studies. The course requires significant levels of self-studying and learning outside of course contact time.

Day 8–9: Digital exam and review on the 17 & 19 November

Standard pricing for the course:

SVEFF members:

  • 26 000 SEK per participant (18 000 SEK for previous course participants).

Others:

  • 34 000 SEK per participant. (23 000 SEK for previous course participants).

Prices are per person excluding VAT.
Lunch, coffee, dinner (day 1), lecture handouts and course literature are included.

Please make sure to register before Monday 28 September 2026.

Registration is binding. In the event of a fully booked course or insufficient participants at the end of the registration period, we reserve the right to cancel the course or to reschedule it for a later date. A minimum of 10 participants is required for the course to take place.
